Phnom Penh: On the morning of July 30, 2024, General Vong Pissen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, met with Lieutenant General Khalian, Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff of Cambodia. The Lao People’s Armed Forces, His Excellency, led a delegation to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from July 29 to 31, 2024.
During the meeting, General Feng Pisen welcomed the high-level delegation of the Lao People’s Army to visit Cambodia, and said that this visit will strengthen and expand the bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and Laos and continue to grow stronger.
Lieutenant General Khanliang expressed his pride and excitement at visiting Cambodia again and thanked His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief for the warm reception of the two countries’ militaries.
General Vong Pissen stressed that Cambodia adheres to and continues to pursue an independent foreign policy and establishes friendly and cooperative relations with countries and international organizations around the world, especially with neighboring countries.
Regarding Cambodia and Laos, Hu Jintao reiterated that Cambodia and Laos will continue to strengthen friendship, unity, cohesion and long-term common development, further promote the improvement of bilateral relations, achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, and implement every corner of the strategic partnership action plan.
His Excellency highly appreciated the friendship and cooperation between the two militaries through mutual visits at all levels, meetings of the two countries’ cooperation committee on border security cooperation, exchange of scholarships and fight against other crimes.
His Excellency requested Laos to continue to cooperate effectively in implementing the protocol signed by the two defense ministers, and to continue to promote the implementation of the minutes of the second meeting of the two countries’ defense cooperation committee. Strengthen Cambodia-Laos border security cooperation and build the border into a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
At the same time, he asked the Lao side to continue to exchange information with each other in the spirit of friendship, solidarity, brotherhood and good neighborliness, prevent cross-border crimes, especially terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and disaster relief, hold sports events, perform arts and entertain each other.
Lieutenant General Kangliang Uthakaisem expressed his gratitude, thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces for the achievements and cooperation between the two militaries, and agreed with some suggestions of the Cambodian Armed Forces.
Your Excellency highly appreciated that the traditional meeting between the Cambodian and Laotian militaries was held against the backdrop of the deepening friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two parties, governments and militaries.
Regarding the cooperation between the two armies, the Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army said that the results have been good over the past year, especially the good order in the border areas between the two countries. The authorities said that people often move to each other.
His Majesty requested Cambodia to continue to hold annual meetings between the Lao, Cambodia and Vietnam militaries, exchange hosts, support and urge the Joint Boundary Committee of the two countries to continue border inspections and demarcations, and work together to continue to resolve remaining issues.
At the same time, His Excellency the Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army also requested to continue to send more trainees to each other, establish a mechanism to jointly solve various problems in the border areas, and continue to carry out disaster prevention training.
