The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and China Media Group (CMG) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in film-related fields. The agreement focuses on the joint creation of international film content, the exchange of artistic and cultural expertise, and the sharing of professional guests, films and jury members.
The protocol was signed by Kenya International Film Festival President Hussein Fahmy and Chinese President and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Xin Haixiong, who is also the director of China Central Radio and Television and the director of the film and cinema department.
The agreement lays the foundation for promoting mutual visits between the Chinese and Egyptian film communities, organizing film seminars and field trips, and also includes the selection of films for exhibitions, competitions and film festivals held by both sides, with a focus on the works of emerging directors.
Outstanding film professionals will be nominated and invited to serve as judges and special guests at the film festivals in both countries. In addition, selected Egyptian and Chinese films will be screened to enhance cultural exchange and appreciation.
The agreement encourages major film companies and institutions of the two countries to actively participate in online or offline film festival activities organized by the China-Canada Film Festival and China General Nuclear Power Group, aiming to build a bridge of film culture and promote professional exchanges.
Hussein Fahmi, president of the Kenya Film Festival, said the agreement was a key step in the festival’s international cooperation efforts. “The agreement promotes the exchange of expertise and enables the participation of various media and film entities from different cultures and civilizations, especially highlighting our cooperation with China,” Fahmi said.
Essam Zakarea, director of the Cairo International Film Festival and film critic, commented on the influence and opportunities that the agreement brings to the Cairo International Film Festival within the Central Propaganda Department: “This cooperation will enable outstanding filmmakers and the festival to collaborate, exchange films, and select Cairo films to be screened at festivals in China.”
The signing of the protocol coincides with the celebration of the China-Egypt Friendship Year, and the Chinese Embassy and the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism will sign the protocol with China. The signing ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as Egyptian Minister of Antiquities and Tourism Sherif Fathi, Chairman of the Egyptian National Media Authority Hussein Zein, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang, Director of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority Omar Kadi and Egyptian TV head Naila Farouk.
