The pilot’s death occurred at the Hilton DoubleTree Hotel around 2 a.m. Monday.

Nautilus Aviation, the helicopter tour company, said the pilot was one of its employees. The company said the individual had only started working for it about four months ago and was not authorized to fly helicopters for the company.

“While the employee held a New Zealand CPL(H) pilot’s licence, he had never flown in Australia or for Nautilus and was not authorised to fly a Nautilus helicopter,” the company said in a statement.

“We will refer the disclosure of personal information to the Queensland Police Service (QPS).
