The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to provide relief to the people affected by the floods in the Kolonnawa region.
The cabinet proposal was submitted following President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s observation visit to Kolonnawa on Monday to assess the welfare of individuals affected by floods and other disasters due to adverse weather conditions and based on demands and details received from the people of the area.
The Cabinet has approved the appointment of a committee headed by the Colombo District Secretary, along with representatives from other relevant agencies, to prepare a detailed plan to provide food and other basic services to the people of the flood-affected Korunawa area as well as other parts of the country, demolish unauthorized structures causing flooding in Korunawa DS area, stop land reclamation works, repair drainage systems, identify the causes of flooding in the area, mitigate future flooding situations and prepare a development plan for Korunawa Municipality by maximizing the use of available land in Korunawa area.
