In order to enable Burkina Faso people living abroad, especially in Europe, to enjoy decent housing in Burkina Faso, the Ilboudo Real Estate and Land Company (SIIF) launched the construction of the “Dream Village” on Saturday, August 3, 2024. It involves the construction of 600 housing units in Goghin, in the rural commune of Saba. The first foundation stone was laid by Mikaïlou Sidibé, the Minister in charge of Urban Planning, Land Affairs and Housing.
For Rasmané Ilboudo, general manager of the Ilboudo Real Estate and Land Company (SIIF), it is a dream and a vision that will become reality after 15 years of maturation. By the end of the project, 600 housing units will have been built, accommodating at least 12,000 people.
“This is a very important project that fits very well with the government’s vision,” said Minister Mikaylou Sidibé.
“In five years, this space will gather at least 12,000 families. That’s the great dream. This city is called a public city and inside the public city we already have the Burkinabe diaspora living in Europe,” Mr. Ilboudo expressed his happiness in advance. He pointed out that the project initially covers an area of 320 hectares, divided into two areas. “The first area has 200 hectares, and those who give up their land will be compensated. The area where we stopped has more than 120 hectares, where the municipal city will be built,” announced Lasmane Ilboudo.
For Rasmané Ilboudo, General Manager of SIIF, this is a dream and a vision that is about to become a reality.
“Here is what we call F3, which is simply two bedrooms plus living room. We will build these buildings here in economic mode, with the facilities of the last generation. Then there will be F4, which is three bedrooms plus living room, economical and luxury. There will also be duplex apartments, with the ground floor raised. The great innovation reserved for this site is HLM (low-income housing). The building “will have apartments at the bottom and at the top,” he revealed.
The real estate project has the support of the “Village de rêve” association, whose president, Rachid Bancé, lives in Italy. The association was founded in 2018 and brings together students, retirees, workers, etc. Its goal is to provide decent housing and structured investment opportunities for Burkinabe living in Europe and wanting to invest in the country. For Rachid Banceé, the city will provide a roof over the head for the Burkinabe diaspora and will also benefit the local economy. “This project that we are launching today (August 3, 2024) will eventually allow 600 Burkinabe families from the diaspora to have decent housing in the commune of Saba and to contribute significantly to the growth of the local economy by paying taxes, building structures. Investment and social exchange,” he said. Rachid Bancé hopes to have the support of the political and administrative authorities so that the Burkinabe diaspora can better support their country.
The project is supported by the Saba Municipality and supervised by the Ministry of Housing. The Minister of Urban Planning, Land Affairs and Housing, Mikaylou Sidibé, was present at the launch. Mr. Sidibé expressed all his views on this initiative. “This is a very important project that fits very well with the government’s vision. We started by cleaning up the real estate development sector in Burkina Faso, refocusing it on housing production and promoting densification, that is, building high up, to limit urban sprawl. This project that we are launching today fits very well with this vision. Not only are there suburban villas, but high-rise buildings are also planned. At the ministerial level, we are very committed to supporting this project, which is part of our plan to produce 50,000 housing units in the next five years,” he revealed. He expressed the authorities’ willingness to support the city of Saba and other municipalities that will launch projects that are in line with the government’s vision.
