While waiting for the celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin on August 15, 2024, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Yagma, prayer vigils will be held in the cathedral of the religious temple on the evening of August 14. These first vespers, which fall within the framework of this Marian feast day, are an opportunity for the Christian faithful to “give thanks to God and pray for the return of peace”.

The Mass was completed in less than 20 minutes. Without the usual rituals of a Mass, this one was characterized by solemnity. After the liturgy, the day’s celebrant, Father Jules Pascal Zabre, rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Yagma, urged the Christian faithful to live in faith. In his homily, he prayed for social cohesion and the restoration of peace in Burkina Faso. “We come to pray to Our Lady of Mariagma, our Mother. May Mary intercede for our country, our families, so that we can find peace,” he prayed.

He suggested that this prayer is special. According to him, this particularity is the attire he wore on the eve of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. On this occasion, he called on pilgrims to observe discipline and ensure that the pilgrimage is carried out in good conditions.

Vespers at the beginning of the pilgrimage are followed, among other things, by a choir performance; a Marian conference, followed by entertainment; the recitation of the Rosary; witnessing and Eucharistic adoration.

Inside the reserve, sellers of religious items, water and juice have prepared facilities to welcome the pilgrims. In the meantime, the team is busy installing tents under which the faithful will take shelter during the Eucharistic celebrations. Parking lot managers run to help two-wheel users park their vehicles within their enclosures. We can see that about a hundred motorcycles are already parked there. On August 15, the Shrine of Our Lady of Ouagadougou was ready to warmly welcome the pilgrims.

As a reminder, this year’s theme is: “Mary, Queen of Peace, Servant of the Lord.”
