It should be stressed that Intesa Sanpaolo is the leading Italian banking group with nearly 100,000 employees and it is inevitable that more cases will be recorded. Apart from confirming the data, the institution did not make any comment.
BancoBpm and Bper
The third and fifth Italian banks by number of employees are Banco Bpm and Bper. According to union sources, the former has received 90 reports of commercial stress this year; on the other hand, the Modena-based institute has 130: it is worth noting that the latter has just acquired 620 former Ubi and Intesa branches.
Neither Banco Bpm nor Bper would comment on the report figures.
UniCredit Bank
Finally, there are the second and fourth Italian banking groups. Here everything is more complicated. The unions could not provide data on the matter. UniCredit and MPS said they had not received any reports of business stress this year.
UniCredit said: “The committee, established under the commercial policy agreement signed between UniCredit and the unions, did not receive any complaints of commercial pressure practices during 2020 and 2021. Due to the presence of seven local control bodies in the region (bilateral company and union observatories), only a few reports of individual behavior that were not in compliance with the contract terms were found and managed and resolved in a constructive manner.”
