Botswana Telecommunications Limited (BTCL), a leading telecommunications company listed on the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), has announced impressive unaudited financial results for the financial year ending March 31, 2024. The company achieved a notable milestone with revenues of PhP1.436 billion, a 3% increase compared to the previous financial year. The increase in revenues was mainly driven by growth in fixed voice services and strong demand for mobile data services. BTC reported EBITDA of PhP200 million with an EBITDA margin of 32.5%. The Board of Directors declared a dividend of PhP15 per share, bringing the company’s total dividends paid out to over PhP1 billion since its listing.
BTC Managing Director Anthony Masunga said: “We are pleased to announce strong financial results for BTC for the year ending 31 March 2024. Our focused execution on strategic priorities has driven revenue growth and profitability, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of our business model.”
During the financial year, BTC invested significantly to enhance its network infrastructure and expand its service offering. This strategic focus has enabled the company to sustain sustained growth in Botswana’s dynamic and competitive telecommunications market. BTC will continue to focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience and innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses.
Masunga highlighted BTC’s unrivalled national coverage and continuous investment in network infrastructure, which has enabled the company to connect across the most challenging terrains. He stressed the importance of remaining responsive and agile in a competitive market, noting that replacing copper with fibre not only enhances customer experience, but also reduces significant risks that impact the socio-economic needs of local communities.
Masunga also noted the correlation between investing in customer experience and achieving positive financial results. Revenue growth was driven by growth in fixed voice services and strong demand for mobile data services. BTC aims to leverage its strong operational capabilities and market expertise to capture emerging opportunities in digital transformation and connectivity services.
Reflecting on Botswana Telecom’s journey, Masonga spoke of the company’s relentless innovation and commitment to connecting the people of Botswana over the past 44 years. He highlighted how Botswana Telecom has shortened distances, empowered communities and changed lives. Looking to the future, Masonga affirmed Botswana Telecom’s vision to pioneer new horizons in technology, provide every Botswana with the tools to thrive and continue to be the heart of communications across the continent.
