Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to pop star Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman In Me. The promising project will be directed by Jon M. Chu and produced by Marc Platt.
Earlier, Spears revealed on her social networks her collaboration with Pratt on a “secret project”, expressing her admiration for the producer’s films and inviting her fans to stay tuned for more news.
“So excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He always makes my favorite movies…stay tuned,” he wrote on X.
The autobiographical book, which was published in October 2023, has become a publishing success, selling over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.
Britney’s memoir provides a candid account of her experiences from her early days on “The Mickey Mouse Club” to her highly publicized conservatorship case, and also covers important personal relationships, including her famous relationship with Justin Timberlake.
The “Toxic” singer went to great lengths to describe the predatory nature of those who tried to control her life.

Britney Spears’ story is about to be brought to the big screen. Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Spears’ bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me, and is being developed into a biopic about the pop star’s life, CNN has confirmed to the studio.
Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, who also directed this fall’s highly anticipated Wicked, will direct the film, while Oscar-nominated Wicked and La La Land producer Marc Platt will produce.
Last Thursday, Spears posted on X, “So excited to share with fans a secret project I’m working on with #MarcPlatt. He’s been making some of my favorite movies…stay tuned!”
According to a source close to the project, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the best-selling book after a tough bidding war with other major studios and streamers interested in the project. The studio has not released any information about Spears’ involvement in the film, but a source close to the singer told CNN that she will be involved in the project.
Published in October 2023, The Woman in Me tells Spears’ life story from the pop star’s own perspective for the first time. Claiming to be the sole author, the book delves into her journey from her beginnings in Mississippi to unprecedented fame, motherhood, faith, and finding freedom.
