At the last NATO summit in Washington, the focus of all alliance member states, except Ukraine, was also on strengthening defense capabilities. As the alliance’s announcement states, Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine and Russia’s transformation into a war economy demonstrate the strategic importance of NATO’s defense industry.

– We will accelerate the growth of defense industry capabilities and production across the Alliance, in accordance with Articles 2 and 3 of the Washington Treaty, building on the ambitions of the Production Action Plan agreed at the Vilnius Summit in 2023. The defense industry enables us to better meet the requirements of NATO defense programs in a timely manner and supports our immediate and permanent support for Ukraine, the statement said.
As mentioned earlier, member states have pledged to work harder as allies to invest in a strong and capable defense industry.
– We are committed to strengthening the defense industry across the Alliance, encouraging innovative, competitive and sustainable defense industries, with mutual cooperation and openness as the norm. Strengthening the defense industries in Europe and North America and improving defense industrial cooperation among Allies remain vital, the statement said.
Abaz Manđuka, acting director of Binas from Bugojan, told Oslobodje that as far as strengthening NATO defense capabilities and European military industry are concerned, the fact is that NATO countries have divided up who does what with Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria and all other NATO members.
– We in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have a flourishing military industry. We have a lot of good companies that can join and become subcontractors of these companies. Binas Bugojno already has contacts with some American companies that have set up branches in Romania. We have contacts with companies in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, so we are already doing this. We have some good companies – Binas Bugojno, Bratstvo Novi Travnik, Igman Konjic… These companies can easily establish contacts with European companies, which have already accepted the division of work and have already accepted work. Everything will depend on our state and our relevant ministries, which should and should monitor the contacts and support our companies. We certainly cannot give much without the support of our relevant ministries and government enterprises. We need political support. All the companies that I listed do not need financial support, because we actually have enough work, and we also have a perception that can be called positive. “We have a lot of ready projects, and we will make precise contacts with NATO countries, which have already accepted military production work, so that we can work normally, let’s start working,” Manduca noted.
Data from the Bosnia and Herzegovina Indirect Taxation Agency show that in the first six months of this year, the total export of weapons and ammunition in Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to 146.9 million km, an increase of nearly 50% over the same period last year. At that time, the export value was 99.8 million marks.
– In fact, exports are growing year by year, and this is a good thing. I repeat, everything will depend on the Federation, on our relevant ministries that are responsible for supervising our military industry. If they support us politically, if they say that we support these projects that you are planning and that the European countries have already announced, then we can solve this problem. I will give you an example. You see, a Turkish drone manufacturer came to us, he was with Minister Konakovic, and he was in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It can be said that this could be a part of the pie that we in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is, the Federation, can grab, if we are smart enough in this regard. Maduka said that these companies that I listed have the opportunity to achieve great prosperity, and this is true, and I also support this.

He noted that Binas had announced open competition for 55 positions at the company and that Binas had properly cooperated with all the ministers who signed when the goods were exported.
