The coast guard said on Saturday that a diver found the 65-year-old’s body between the seaside resorts of Prasonisi and Triopatra. Her body was taken by boat to the port of Agia Galini.

The 65-year-old’s husband, who had not heard from his wife since Friday afternoon, alerted Greek authorities. Police and the Coast Guard immediately launched a search operation. The man told police he did not know where his wife had gone but that she might have wanted to go swimming in the sea. An autopsy will now provide information about the cause of death.

At least eight foreign tourists have died on Greek islands plagued by heatwaves this summer.

On June 9, the body of Michael Mosley, a famous British TV presenter, was found on Symi. A few days later, an 80-year-old Belgian man was found dead near the ancient city of Rato in eastern Crete. The dead also included tourists from the Netherlands and the United States. Two French women, aged 73 and 64, are still missing after hiking on Sikinos in June.

In view of the extreme temperatures, Greek health authorities have issued multiple warnings and advised tourists not to go out during the hottest times of the day.
