U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Israel this weekend to advance ongoing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza, the State Department announced today.
Blinken will leave on Saturday and seek to “reach a (Gaza) ceasefire agreement and release hostages and prisoners (Israelis held by Hamas) through a compromise proposal put forward on Friday,” according to a State Department statement from the United States in the latest round of talks.
Discussions on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages will resume in Cairo next week, following 48 hours of “constructive” negotiations in Doha that ended today, according to a joint statement from the mediators.
