A former Afghan soldier named Bharat Khan Bakhtar was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Loorai district of southern Pakhtunkhwa province.
Bharat Khan Bakhtar was the security chief of Matahan district in Paktika province during the former republican regime. General Sami Sadat, a senior commander of the disbanded Afghan army, claimed on his Twitter account that Bharat was killed by the Taliban.
Sami Sadat, leader of the Taliban opposition group United Front of Afghanistan, said he would avenge the deaths of Afghan soldiers and called on the Pakistani government to pay attention to the safety of former Afghan soldiers.
According to reports, after the Taliban returned to power, Commander Barat moved to Pakistan with his family and ran a shop in a vegetable market in Lorelai area of Balochistan.
No one has yet been held accountable for the former soldier’s murder.
The Taliban has not yet responded to the incident, but the United Nations and other human rights organizations have previously accused the Taliban government of killing, torturing and imprisoning hundreds of former soldiers.
