In a strongly worded speech at the Guyana Police Force’s 158th Anniversary Symposium on Tuesday, Interior Minister Robeson Benn called for introspection and accountability within the police force, saying the police force must not extort the people.
The Minister stressed that the country is currently going through a period of significant political, economic and social change and therefore, the police force must rise to the challenge.
In his opening remarks, Benn highlighted the government’s prosperity plan, which includes saving the productive sector, securing benefits from oil and gas, and promoting sustainable development. He stressed that security and peace are important components of the plan, and the police force is at the forefront of ensuring these goals.
