At the beginning of September, many regions of Belarus traditionally introduced restrictions on the sale of alcohol. The reason for such a radical (or not?) decision was the Knowledge Day. Usually, local authorities decide on their own where, when and how long the ban will be implemented. For example, some regions of Belarus will stop selling alcoholic beverages on September 1, in others on September 2, and in others for two consecutive days.
Official decisions of the authorities on the Sobriety Day are published on the Belarusian State Legal Internet Portal. It is not possible to give a complete list of regions, as some are earlier and some are later. But the latest information on sales restrictions can be tracked on the websites of local authorities and the media. In addition, large retail chains often inform about this.
For example, the Pinsk City Executive Committee ReportFrom September 1, the sale of alcohol in city stores, except for restaurants, will be restricted from 00:00 to 24:00. However, there is a ban in the Braginsky District. Will last 08:00 on September 2nd to 08:00 on September 3rd.
In addition, we remind you that, except for catering facilities (restaurants, cafes, bars), beer and low-alcohol drinks are not allowed to be sold in stores from 00:00 to 24:00 on September 1. Ethanol with a volume fraction of no more than 7% is also not allowed.
Who would be an exception?
In general, the ban does not apply to retail trade in public catering facilities – these are places where alcohol is sold by the glass. In addition, restrictions on the sale of alcohol do not apply to retail outlets if we are talking about:
- Sacrificial ceremony,
- Weddings and anniversary celebrations.
Earlier, Telegraf.news reported that the Belarusian Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade has increased the minimum price of alcohol. The reason is the change in the excise tax rate and the “increase in material costs”, according to the ministry’s press service. This decision was made by Resolution No. 36 of May 15, 2024.
