Belarus’ Kostenich and Braginets win bronze at World Youth Wrestling Championships

Minsk, August 22 / Corr. Belta /. Belarusian athletes won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championship for athletes under 17 years old, held in Amman, Jordan, BELTA correspondent reported.

In women’s wrestling, three of our girls won bronze medals, two of them finished on the podium. In the 49 kg category, Ksenia Kostenich defeated Algerian Dunya Zitouni (5:0), and in the 57 kg category, Polina Braginets defeated Hungarian Barbara Bager (7:3). The only defeat of the day was to Alexandra Komonova, who lost to Kazakhstan’s Urdana Trokhan in the 65 kg category for third place.

The next program on Thursday evening was the final of the championship in the weight category under 73 kg, performed by our Anna Pirskaya. The remaining five categories of the women’s category started earlier, and four Belarusians participated in the preliminaries today. In the 53 kg qualifying round, Khrushcheva defeated Azerbaijan’s Fatima Bairamova, but failed to make it to the quarterfinals.

Three other athletes of ours – Elvira Bagirova (46 kg), Varvara Aliseenko (61 kg) and Ulyana Lapanik (69 kg) – were defeated in the first round. However, Bagirova and Lapanik still have a chance to compete for the bronze medal, as their opponents made it to the finals of their respective categories. Tomorrow there will be a consolation match with the participation of Belarusian athletes -0-.
