Officials in Beijing are furious at a NATO summit in Washington that named China as a decisive force in pushing Russia into war in Ukraine, the BBC reports.

On the eve of the NATO summit, a harshest statement yet was adopted on China’s involvement in the war in Ukraine, accusing Beijing of being the decisive force fueling Russia’s war.

This triggered an angry response from the Chinese mission to the European Union, which called on NATO to “stop inciting so-called Chinese threats and provoking confrontation and antagonism.”

In addition, Chinese Foreign Ministry representative Ling Jian said that the alliance used “fabricated false information” to smear China.

China has also called on NATO to stay out of the Asia-Pacific region, saying NATO’s efforts to strengthen military and security ties with China’s neighbors undermine China’s interests as well as peace and stability in the region.
