Adam Britton has long been one of the world’s leading zoologists, primarily studying crocodiles and alligators.

The 53-year-old was born in England but moved to the UK at an early age. Australiaand has appeared in several BBC documentaries, including one with the legendary Sir David Attenborough.

In April 2022, Britton was arrested on suspicion of raping and torturing more than 40 dogs in a “torture chamber” at his Darwin home.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

Britton began using his own dogs – two Swiss shepherds – in a secret “torture chamber” he built on his Darwin farm.

In a letter written from prison, Britton apologized to his family and former dog owners. He also identified himself as suffering from zoophilia, a sexual deviation characterized by a need to have sexual intercourse with animals.

“I have let you all down. I am truly sorry. I now realize that I have spent most of my life struggling with a rare paraphilic disorder. Shame and fear kept me from seeking the help I truly needed,” Britton wrote in the letter. ABC.
