BERLIN, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — Thomas Muller’s two goals helped Bayern Munich beat lower-league side Ulm in the opening match of the German Cup.
Ulm had a great game against the German giants and almost scored after five minutes. Maurice Klattenmacher had the best chance of the game after Bayern failed to clear a free kick in the box, but his shot went wide.
In the 12th minute, Joshua Kimmich passed the ball precisely to Müller, who made no mistake and easily scored from 8 meters, making a great contribution to the record championship.

Bayern’s lead was not over yet. As the game was about to end, Kane headed Muller’s precise cross into the penalty area, extending the score to 4-4.
“We started strongly and dominated the first half. After the break, we lost control and allowed Ulm to equalise. We ended up winning 4-0, which was important because in the past few years we have been eliminated early on,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said.
Elsewhere, Hoffenheim beat Würzburger Kickers 5-3 on penalties to avoid an early exit, Mainz needed extra time to beat Wiesbaden Wehen 3-1, and St. Pauli eliminated Halleschel 3-2 in extra time.
