Bathing with the dog – Slovenian News

When you are looking for the most suitable waterside resort for you and your dog, it is best to consider places that are as pristine as possible, along fresh water, where not too many people swim. The exception is the area of ​​​​Triglav National Park, where swimming in mountain lakes is not allowed. Even in the two official bathing areas on the Bohinj Lake, Vegre and the Ukanec River embankment section, dogs are not allowed to bathe.

Prohibited items must be marked

Whether at a freshwater beach or at the seaside, if dogs are not allowed to swim, this must be indicated on a sign. Violations may result in a fine of up to €200. For example, with your furry friend you may not go to the swimming pools in Zustna, the city beaches in Koper, the well-maintained beaches of Portorož, Debelitic, Fisa, Stronjan and Simonov Zalif.

Some “wild” beaches allow dogs, provided they do not disturb other bathers. Beaches suitable for dog owners are located at Delamaris near Izola on the Slovenian coast, and you can also swim with dogs in Belvedere, Adria beach section in Ankaran and Lucija beach section (also in the parking lot), at the end of Semedelska promenade in Koper.

Swimming with neighbors

In northern Croatian Istria, there are many dog-friendly beaches in Umag and Novigrad. For example, Katora and Costanzija beaches are designed for dogs and their owners. Dog beaches can also be found at Mareda camping site (Lokvina beach). In Poreč, they are welcome on 11 beaches, including under the Valmar Parentino hotel, Brulo beach, Tarska Vala, Puntica, Ulika nudist camping site, and Galjot beach at the Blue Lagoon. Dog owners can also take their pets for a swim on the beaches between Stari Cerval and Poreč. In Fontana, they have a dog beach at the Polydo camping site. In Vrsar, you can find Studena dog beach. In Medulin and Pula, dogs can swim in the sea anywhere between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am. In Croatian Istria, look out for beaches marked with a blue flag, as dogs are not allowed to swim there.
