The Barbados Meteorological Service has issued an overnight flood warning for the island.
An unstable tropical wave with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms is expected to continue throughout the night, posing a risk of flooding to low-lying areas.
According to the warning, rainfall amounts of 25 mm to 75 mm are possible, which could lead to waterlogging of roads and fields, rising water levels in ponds and other water bodies, and soil erosion on exposed surfaces. Fast-moving water could also carry debris from higher altitudes, creating further danger.
Residents are advised to follow all advice from emergency management to stay safe during this time.
A flood warning means that, while flooding is not guaranteed, it is possible within the affected area.
The current watch will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, unless updated or terminated earlier depending on the situation. (Building Management System)
