Bank of Baroda (BOB), which is celebrating its 117th anniversary, has more than 100,000 accounts in Fiji.
The bank celebrated its anniversary with a series of events and contributions that highlighted its long-standing presence and contribution to Fiji.
During the anniversary celebrations held at Suva Kshatriya Hall, Bank of Baroda highlighted its commitment to CSR by donating wheelchairs to CWM Hospital, planting mangrove saplings at Narsese and organising a walkathon.
The guest of honour at the celebrations last night, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, hailed the bank’s achievements, noting that the bank had made a significant impact on Fiji’s economic and social landscape over the 63 years since its inception in 1961.
“The bank has a strong international presence with a network spanning 17 countries,” Mr Rabuka said.
“The company has a rich 117-year history of staying ahead of the curve by embracing innovation and continually reinventing itself, earning the trust and support of its customers and other key stakeholders.
“Our celebrations must begin with the memory of Maharaj Sayajirao, the founder of the Bank of Baroda, who established the bank on July 20, 1908, with the intention of becoming a beneficial institution for loans, transfers and deposits and a strong factor in the development of arts, industry and commerce in Baroda and neighbouring areas.”
Mr Rabuka hailed the bank’s global reputation and highlighted its role in fostering economic development and customer trust through continuous innovation and adaptation.
He therefore announced the creation of a banking ombudsman as part of government reforms aimed at strengthening customer service and dispute resolution in the banking sector.
Founded in 1908 by Maharaj Sayajirao with a vision to support financial activities and promote regional development, Bank of Baroda has grown to become the second largest public sector bank in India with a strong international network covering 17 countries.
With a global customer base of over 165 million, the bank offers a seamless banking experience through its extensive digital platform and over 70,000 touchpoints worldwide.
The theme of this anniversary celebration is “Trust Today, Transform Tomorrow”, reflecting Bank of Baroda’s continued commitment to becoming a world-class financial institution rooted in a century-old tradition of customer trust and service excellence.
