Islam, 26, the chief coordinator of the group Students Against Discrimination, told AFP from his hospital bed on Monday that he feared for his life.

He regained consciousness on a roadside in Dhaka the next morning, Islam added.
Mahmoud previously told AFP that he was also detained and beaten by police at the height of the unrest last week.
Three senior Dhaka police officers denied that the three were taken away from the hospital and detained on Friday.
Thousands of people arrested
