The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission unreservedly condemns the brutal attack launched by an armed terrorist group on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in the town of Barsaligo in north-central Burkina Faso, which caused dozens of deaths, casualties and injury to innocent civilians and many others.
ECOWAS expressed its sincere condolences to the Government and people of Burkina Faso, especially the families of the victims. She wished a speedy recovery to the injured. ECOWAS expressed its solidarity with the Government and people of Burkina Faso in their ongoing fight against terrorists.
ECOWAS is determined to work alongside the countries of the subregion to eradicate terrorism, particularly through the continued activation of the ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Force.

The Committee called on all States of the subregion to strengthen cooperation in areas such as intelligence-sharing, border security and the implementation of the ECOWAS counter-terrorism strategy.
