(Nassau Guardian) Marco City MP Michael Pintard was re-elected leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) in a landslide on Saturday, defeating former Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis and ending speculation over whether he would retain the leadership position he first won in 2021.
At the party convention in Bahama, Pintard won 75 percent of the votes with 486 votes to Minnis’s 163 votes.
Dr. Duane Sands was also re-elected as party chairman, defeating former cabinet colleague Elsworth Johnson 431 votes to 221.
In his speech Saturday night, Pintard said he was honored to have the opportunity to serve his country.
He said: “… no matter who you voted for in this election, we want to make it clear that we need you.”
“With you, we are stronger. Without you, we are weaker and less likely to be a true organization that can take power from those who so often abuse it.”
What is rare is that Pintard, who was once a minister in Minnis’ cabinet, also praised Minnis, calling him a valuable asset to the Labour Party.
