Nicholas Higgs has been named the next Managing Director of the Bahamas Development Bank (BDB). He will take the helm of the national development bank on July 4, 2022. At 31, he is the youngest Managing Director in the institution’s history.
Mr. Higgs has extensive experience in development finance, research and fundraising. He led the research department of CFAL, one of the largest local financial institutions in the Bahamas, and assisted in providing corporate advisory services. In partnership with Fidelity Bank of the Bahamas, he led the team that raised $60 million in funding for Be Aliv Limited.
Most recently, Mr. Higgs served as Director and COO of the Access Accelerator Small Business Development Center (SBDC), leading the business development division. The SBDC’s diverse team of business professionals spans multiple sectors and islands to make an impact nationwide. His relationship-building approach ensures micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) achieve their goals by growing their businesses and ultimately gaining access to more critical capital. His efforts at the SBDC have resulted in more than 1,900 entrepreneurs receiving $60 million in funding in three years.
After graduating from St. Augustine’s College in 2008, he earned a degree in Finance and Business Analytics with a minor in Philosophy from Le Moyne College. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and has successfully passed the Series 7 exam. A firm believer in investing in the community that has invested in him, Mr. Higgs is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Toastmasters 1600, and has served as a consultant for the Jr.Investor program.
