Azerbaijan and Italy have opened a “new chapter” in bilateral relations by launching military-technical cooperation. This was announced by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with visiting Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto.
The visiting Italian delegation also included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli, APA reported.
The Azerbaijani head of state stressed that Italy has a highly developed military-technical industry and called the delivery of the C-27J Spartan military transport aircraft to Azerbaijan a sign of the high level of relations between the two countries
Aliyev said Italy and Azerbaijan maintain a strategic partnership in many areas, noting that Italy accounts for the bulk of Azerbaijan’s trade relations in Europe, with trade between the two countries exceeding $15 billion.
Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan-Italy cooperation in the field of oil and gas is of great significance not only for the two countries but also for the whole of Europe, underscoring that strong political relations are at the core of their development and stating that the “Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Italy” forms the basis of these relations.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto thanked the Azerbaijani President for the reception and congratulated him on the Armed Forces Day, expressing appreciation for the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense industry.
