Chile’s Atacama Desert, considered one of the driest places on Earth, has taken on a purple hue. The sandy surface is streaked with purple flowers.

Cesar Pizarro, head of the National Forestry Corporation’s biodiversity conservation department, noted that rainfall on the sandy surface is expected to increase. This could lead to an increase in plant diversity in winter.
