Apia, Samoa – July 16, 2024 – An Asian woman appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday, accused of bringing drugs into the country.
Police applied for an adjournment to allow the charges to be finalised and the accused will appear in court again next Monday to plead to the final charges.
The suspect, who is from American Samoa, was suspected of carrying prohibited substances during a baggage scan at Fagali Airport.
During last month’s parliamentary session, several lawmakers expressed serious concern about the rapid increase in drugs, especially methamphetamine, in Samoa and suggested strict checks at the country’s borders, including with neighbouring American Samoa.
The defendant is now released on bail and awaits his next court appearance.
