Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has called on the villagers of Naroi village on Moala Island in Laos to work together for the welfare of children and improve their education standards.
Mr Radrodero, who addressed villagers during the minister’s visit, said there were about 13,000 teachers in Fiji serving in primary, secondary and early childhood education schools and the government must pay high attention to their education as it has noted the increasing number of dropouts.
“We urge students and teachers to take full advantage of the initiatives and resources provided by the government,” Mr Ladrodero said.
“The Education Department is the largest ministry under the government and got the lion’s share of the budget announced by Finance Minister Biman Prasad.
“Our teachers must fulfill their responsibilities so that our children can receive a good education.”
Mr Radrodro said the Government was urging not only teachers but also villagers, parents, village chiefs, police and churches to work together to help children get the education they deserve and help improve the standard of education in Fiji.
“Fiji is also experiencing an increase in the number of school dropouts so we urge everyone to help every child in their education.
“The government has introduced initiatives such as the TSLS interest-free loan scheme, and we are also trying to add more vocational education and training institutions to open up pathways for our children’s education.
“So I urge everyone, not just the people on Moala Island but those we will be visiting and those who have visited, to think about our children.”
