The Democratic Progressive Party-DPP Congress was very successful, confirming His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as the DPP Torchbearer for 2025. The Malawi Congress Party is under tremendous pressure, knowing full well that no matter what happens, the Malawi People’s Movement Party will defeat their candidate!
In order to discredit APM in the eyes of the public, MCP immediately recruited social media influencers who make their living by posting paid posts to launch a campaign attacking APM’s age as the only factor that disqualified him from the election.
For the fighters against APM’s comeback, their argument is premised on the APM’s age in 2025. They say that by 2025, APM will be 85 years old and therefore he will not be physically fit enough to contest elections and even if he wins, he will not be able to effectively manage the country’s affairs.
I find this reasoning extremely vague and baseless. Ironically, those who are launching this campaign are the same so-called influencers who were vehemently opposed to APM’s participation in the 2019 election.
To achieve their goal, they started a smear campaign to portray Abdullah Abdullah as unfit to run again in 2019. In their failed plan, they lobbied everywhere that the DPP needed a young presidential candidate to win the election. Unfortunately, their agenda failed miserably.
Today, the same group has resurfaced after noting that people still crave APM over any other candidate, including the incumbent candidate Chakwera, whose popularity has dropped significantly.
They have now launched a campaign of information distortion, accusing those who push the APM agenda of being selfish and bad at APM!
The fact is, MCP knows that the only one who can defeat Chakwera at the moment is APM, that is why they are panting like a giraffe that has just fallen into the lion’s den
Now if we want to talk about the age of APM! Let us know that we have actual examples in Africa and other regions where leaders are elected regardless of their age! What people see in a candidate is their ability to lead their people towards a common destiny!
Push the social agenda with a sober and mature mindset! They don’t look at how big or strong a person’s biceps are! They don’t get carried away by how many push-ups they can do or how good their English is! They only look at the substance.
Here are some examples of world leaders who are still entrusted with running the affairs of their country despite their advanced age!
Cameroon.
Paul Biya, 89 years old, is the current President of Cameroon. He has been President since November 1982. His party, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC) and the people of Cameroon know what leadership means! They will not play stupid games like chipapapa like the Malawians did in 2020!
They know that their destiny and the age of their leaders will not prevent them from fulfilling their collective mission. They understand that running a government is not an individual matter but a collective responsibility.
They made 89-year-old Bea the captain of the ship, issuing directives, instructions and orders to the General Headquarters to propel the country to greater heights!
Dominican Republic
Joaquín Balaguer left office at the age of 89 after 24 years at the helm of the country. Ironically, these 24 years were not continuous. After several years of asylum in the United States, Balaguer returned in 1965 and won the presidential election in 1966.
Balaguer lost the 1978 election and did not run for president again until 1986 – he served another 10 years. Both of Joaquín Balaguer’s presidency saw brilliant achievements – such as extensive public projects and an economic boom!
Israel
Shimon Peres served as Israel’s ninth president from 2007 to 2014. Prior to becoming Israel’s president, he served two terms as prime minister and three terms as Israel’s foreign minister. At the time of his retirement, Peres was 90 years old, making him the oldest president in the world. As a country, Israel is resilient in every way.
Despite being surrounded by hostile nations, Israel is able to defend itself. The Israeli people follow good morals and standards when electing their leaders! No wonder Benjamin had to return to the Prime Minister’s seat!
For them, the development of the country is more important than satisfying their personal political egos! They vote for people with substance, not comedians and liars, like what happened in 2020 when Malawians were deceived!
Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu was born on October 21, 1949. He is an Israeli politician who has served as Prime Minister of Israel since December 2022, having previously served from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2009 to 2021. He is the Chairman of the Likud Party.
Netanyahu is the longest-serving prime minister in Israel’s history, having served for a total of more than 15 years, and is also the first prime minister born after Israel’s independence.
The list is endless!
in conclusion
The Malawi Congress Party suffered a disastrous defeat and Chakwera knows that he cannot currently convince the Malawians to vote for him. The best thing the Malawi Congress Party can do now is to accept the fact that they are facing Mutharika in the election and an embarrassing defeat is waiting for them!
Using age as an excuse to go to war with Mutharika will only increase Mutharika’s popularity and make people love him more! Why should the Malayan Communist Party care about the age of its rivals?
