Executive Secretary Mujo Tosunbegović, on behalf of Municipal Mayor Sead Džafić, attended the 32nd anniversary of the Battle of Karovin at the Hrasno Donje Municipal Council today. He laid flowers and read the Fatiha for the 27 fallen soldiers of the Bosnian Army, who gave their lives defending their homeland in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the defense line above the Kalesi settlement.
– Today we remember the bravest and best men of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army, who gave their lives in this place to defend their homeland. Their struggle and sacrifice must never be forgotten, because they prevented the Chetniks from infiltrating this densely populated area below this altitude. In his speech, Tosombegović said that we must tell the younger generation what happened in these areas and teach them the true history.
The organizer of the celebration of this important day was the Kalesija Municipality, co-organized by the Directorate of the Ministry of Health of Hrasnodonje, headed by Jasmin Atić, who in his speech called for unity, because only in this way can the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina be protected.
– August 22 is a special day for us as we remember the courage and sacrifice of our martyrs. The Battle of Kalován was a moment of true courage and solidarity among us. Our martyrs bravely resisted the invaders at the risk of their lives. They fought not only for their families and communities, but for all of us, Katic said.
A direct participant, Chairman of the United Fighters Organization, Hariž Imović, spoke about the action in Karovin on August 22. He spoke with great emotion about the courage of the Vuković fighters, who defended the area together with the forces of Tojšić and Tuzla.
– It is difficult to remember those days and everything that happened here. “I know that we shed blood in these forests to defend our own forests, and we successfully prevented the Chetniks’ plans to infiltrate the interior of our city,” Imovich noted.
An exhibition of paintings on the theme of Bosnia and Herzegovina by painter Fikret Jahić Vršanin was held on the Karovina Plateau.
This year’s commemoration of the Battle of Carrowen was attended by a large number of citizens, representatives of veterans’ associations and organizations, and representatives of political parties.
