Pulse Analytics has just completed a study on the government measures that we are sharing exclusively with you. Obviously we have to take into account that the policies of the opposition are announced and those of the government are in effect. But it gives us an idea of what citizens are looking for in the context of elections and what has the biggest impact on them. The data, collected using advanced monitoring and behavioural analysis techniques from May 1st to August 12th, is based on 650,000 internet users and provides a detailed overview of the perceived effects of these initiatives on hundreds of thousands of Mauritians.
The Government’s flagship measure: a step forward
The government announced several social and economic measures that caught the attention of voters, including raising the minimum wage to Rs 20,000, which won clear support from around 125,400 people, mostly in the age group of 25-50. Similarly, raising the pension to Rs 14,000 attracted strong support from voters aged 60 and above, with 190,500 of them supporting the measure.
Other government initiatives such as education subsidies and maternity benefits were also well received, attracting 92,800 and 160,000 responses respectively. These policies, which are mainly aimed at providing financial relief to families and professionals, have enhanced the government’s appeal to a wide range of voters.
Opposition focuses on cost of living
For its part, the opposition attracted attention with its measures focused on reducing the cost of living. The free public transport initiative attracted 285,000 supporters, becoming the opposition’s most popular proposal. Other measures, such as lower drug prices and free internet access, attracted 103,200 and 205,000 voters respectively, highlighting the importance of access to financial services for both the elderly and young.
However, while some opposition proposals, such as lowering fuel prices (230,200 supporters) and extending maternity leave to a year, have had a significant impact, they have not yet been able to compete with the wider appeal of government pay and pension increases.
A battle for undecided voters
In terms of overall support, the government is slightly ahead, with 40% of voters backing its measures, compared to the opposition’s 38.93%. The government’s key measures, such as raising the minimum wage and pensions, have strong support, consolidating its position in this electoral fight. Nonetheless, the opposition continues to make significant gains, especially among younger voters and those concerned about economic issues. The real test for both camps will be their ability to mobilize undecided voters, who make up about 21% of the electorate and could sway the final outcome.
Analysis shows that while the government has a slight lead in overall approval ratings, the opposition remains a strong contender with targeted proposals on issues that matter to many voters. The ability of both parties to engage with these undecided voters will undoubtedly determine the outcome of the next election.
Undecided people can be identified using advanced sentiment analysis and behavioral tracking that detects apathy or mixed reactions in social media interactions and online behavior, flagging those who do not have a strong preference for either the government or the opposition.
How were these studies conducted?
Pulse Analytics uses sophisticated data collection and analysis methods, integrating advanced technologies to understand user behavior on various digital platforms. This includes visiting political websites, interacting on social media, and contributing to political forums.

For example, Pulse Analytics uses predictive models such as random forests and support vector machines (SVM) to identify specific behaviors and preferences. It also segments users into different groups based on their behavior, providing a better understanding of different audience types.
To analyze user sentiment, Pulse Analytics uses natural language processing (NLP) technology, which examines online posts and comments to determine the prevailing sentiment on certain topics. In addition, it uses anomaly detection algorithms to monitor for unusual trends and behaviors.
