Alleged scammer arrested while trying to enter Costa Rica

A foreigner named Pinto, 52 years old, of Ecuadorian nationality, was detained at the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) on Thursday afternoon, August 15. He was intercepted by INTERPOL Costa Rican officers as he tried to enter the country, based on an international arrest warrant issued in 2023.

According to the Judicial Investigative Organization (OIJ), Pinto is wanted by the US justice system for the following crimes: scam, Money Laundering yes conspiracy.

After his arrest, he was brought before the First Judicial Circuit Criminal Court to determine his legal status.

That evening, Interpol Costa Rican agents arrested a man named Monge, 40, who was wanted by the Garabito Criminal Court on suspicion of simple theft. Monge also received an international arrest warrant in 2023.

According to the Judiciary Police, upon investigation, the suspect had left the country for the United States. Contact was subsequently established with the U.S. authorities, who managed to detain Monge in Houston, Texas, and then deport him to Costa Rica.

Monge was transferred to the criminal court.
