The Special Court of Appeal failed this Monday to proceed with the trial of Himara’s elected mayor, Alfred Belleri, and another co-defendant, Pandeli Kokaveshi.
The reason was a lack of defenders for Bellaire and Kocavish, who both told the three judges they had not yet chosen attorneys to represent them.
In this case, the Court of Appeal appointed two state prosecutors for them, postponed the hearing until June 7 and gave the inquisitors time to choose defense counsel. Beleri and Kokaveshi were found guilty in the first degree of buying votes in the local elections on May 14, 2023.
