Libreville, Thursday, August 8, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – This is a summary of the meeting held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Presidential Palace in Libreville, between the Transitional President, General Blaise Clotaire Origi Nguema, and the French Ambassador to Gabon.

After three (3) years in the Gabonese Republic, the French Ambassador to Gabon bid farewell to the President of the Republic at the end of his mission, committed to strengthening the ties between France and Gabon in response to the tensions observed in some African countries where the military is in power.
Moreover, for the first time he succeeded in bringing together in one building almost all the components of the embassy in Libreville, not counting the French military base in Libreville, which had been transformed into a training center.
Specifically, Alexis Lameck discussed with the head of state the memories of his stay in Gabon, his good offices in the framework of cooperation between the French Republic and the Gabonese Republic, as well as the development of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
The President of the Republic explained in his press release that the French diplomat reiterated to General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema the support of the French Republic for the transition period led by the Institutional Transition and Restoration Commission (CTRI). In this regard, he praised Gabon for respecting the commitments made in the above-mentioned process, taking clear actions and respecting human dignity.
“I was very moved to experience what Gabon has gone through in the past historic year, and the impressive transformation, just like everyone who lives in Gabon, and like all Gabonese, I experienced this moment”, said Alexis Lamek, indeed underlining the contours of France’s new cooperation, which now focuses on win-win partnerships, taking into account developments in the world.
“The fundamental work is to ensure that both sides get rid of stereotypes and preconceived ideas and understand each other better. Because the Gabon of today is not the Gabon of 30 years ago, 50 years ago, 100 years ago,” he added.
He continued: “Today’s France is not the France of 30 years ago, 60 years ago. Today, our country is willing to cooperate with all countries on an equal footing, on the basis of partnership. I think today it is better understood. In any case, if it is better understood, my mission will have been successful.”
The French diplomat, who seemed to have successfully completed his mission, left room for another diplomat who will have to continue this huge project that needs to be adjusted and improved. But he remains in Africa as French ambassador, this time to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and to the African Union.
A Gabonese government spokesman said Alexis Lamek would hand over the post to Fabrice Mauriès, a senior diplomatic adviser who is serving as France’s ambassador to Haiti and will return to Libreville soon.
Laurence Ndong announced on Thursday, June 20, 2024, that the Council of Ministers had given advance consent for the new head of the French diplomatic mission to carry out his duties in Gabon.
