An Albanian criminal gang has been revealed to have smuggled €10.5m worth of cocaine from Mexico into Ireland irish sunBut their distribution network has now been dismantled following the seizure of drugs at Dublin Port.
The investigation is being carried out by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and HM Revenue and Customs but is continuing and no arrests have been made.
Investigators believe that Albanian drug gangs work closely with Mexican drug gangs.
The drugs came from Colombia, were transported through Mexico and were destined for the European market.
It is believed some of the packaging may be intended for the Irish market.
An unaccompanied cargo unit disembarking from the ferry was intercepted and searched following the discovery of suspected illegal drugs. The narcotics will be analysed by the Forensic Science Institute of Ireland (FSI).
