Nkwazi Football Club has appointed veteran coach Aggrey Chiyangi as head coach.
The Zambia Police Service-sponsored team said in a statement today that Chiyangi has signed a two-year contract. The former Chipolopolo interim coach was unveiled by Police Commissioner Graphael Musamba at the police headquarters today.
He joined the Police squad a week before the start of the 2024-2025 MTN Premier League, replacing Denis Majinka.
Like his predecessor, Oswald Mutapa, Majinka also went to Kitwe in search of greener pastures.
Mutapa, also known as Mourinho, joined Power Dynamos as head coach last season while Majinka has been appointed assistant coach to Ian Bakara at Nkana.
Chiyangi arrives at the Edwin Imboela Stadium having previously coached Chambishi Nkana FC, Zanaco, Nchanga Rangers and Green Eagles.
Later, it was with the Eagles that Chiyangi made his name by transforming the Zambian national team from a minor league side into a powerhouse that played in Africa for three seasons.
Chiyangi also worked for a period of time in Botswana.
Musamba expressed optimism over the appointment of the experienced coach.
Musamba said: “Given the rich experience of coach Chiyangi, I believe the team will be led by him.”
The IG said the club had high aspirations for the team, including winning the league, the ABSA Cup and participating in continental football competitions.
He also urged the team to uphold high standards of discipline and reflect the good image of the institution.
Club chairman Bradley Mwinyi said he was confident Chiyangi could live up to expectations and said Chiyangi had extensive experience in the league. Mwinyi also encouraged Chiyangi to achieve greater success than the team achieved last season.
Chiyangi joins a coaching team that includes first assistant coach Keegan Phiri, second assistant coach Edward Kangwa, third assistant coach Signs Chibanbo and goalkeeping coach Samuel Ngukube.
