Vance, who was a sharp critic of Trump before entering high politics but has since become a loud defender of him, announced his choice on his social network, Truth Social, just as the Republican Party was finalizing Trump’s presidential nomination at its pre-election convention.

“After careful consideration … I have decided that the best person to serve as Vice President of the United States is Senator Cyrus Vance from the great state of Ohio,” Trump said.

The former White House chief therefore chose a relatively young election partner: Vance is 39 years old, exactly half Trump’s age. He is relatively inexperienced in high-level politics, as he was first elected to the Senate in 2022 and had never held any elected office before. But after entering Congress, he quickly became one of the representatives of the new wing of the Republican Party that emulated Trump.

His choice as a vice presidential running mate has been speculated for months, with media reports in recent weeks suggesting Trump is choosing between Senator Cyrus Vance, Marco Rubio and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. Vance may be the one who is “most ideologically aligned” with the presidential candidate, according to the Associated Press. The senator’s name is J.D. Vance, his full name is James David Vance. He was born in poverty and grew up in Middletown, a city in southwestern Ohio. He described his difficult childhood in his 2016 book “Hillbilly Elegy,” when he was mainly raised by his grandparents, and the book made him famous in the United States and abroad.
