Olympic champion Nina Christiansen didn’t have much time to process those feelings as she led the Swiss delegation into the stadium during the opening ceremony.

Three years ago, Nina Christen became known to the wider Swiss public day by day. First, the Unterwalden shooter won the Olympic bronze medal over 10m with the air rifle at the Tokyo Olympics, which was a bit of a surprise. A week later, she even won the big gold medal in the small-caliber three-position competition.

Christine was suddenly the talk of everyone and fell into depression. The 30-year-old has now solved this problem. In the past few months, Christine has managed to secure a ticket to the Olympics in a tense internal qualification competition. What’s more: On Friday evening, she will lead the Swiss delegation into the stadium as flag bearer together with mountain biker Nino Schurter.

After the opening ceremony we went back to training

Some 36 hours after the anticipated excitement of the Opening Ceremony, Christine had to get back into focused competition mode. The Sunday morning programme featured the Air Rifle (10m) Qualifying Round. Christine had dealt with this unusual situation before, saying: “I knew I would be a flag bearer. I had already determined with my coach and sports psychologist how we would handle this.”

Christine gives herself 24 hours to enjoy the opening ceremony and process the emotions associated with it. After returning to Châteauroux, two hours south of Paris, where the shooting competition takes place, our attention returns to training. “If I still need to get rid of something, my sports psychologist is there,” Christine explains.

Be ready on X days – more than once

Christensen has completed her first training session in Châteauroux. The 2019 European champion says she feels good. The Swiss is satisfied with her performances over the past few months. These experiences will help her prepare for the tenth day.

There are even two days X for Christian, or actually four days. The 10m+ air rifle final will be held one day after the qualifying rounds (Monday 29 July). In the three-place battle, the qualifying rounds are scheduled for August 1, with the finals taking place the following day.
