Dorothee Feller, Minister of Schools of North Rhine-Westphalia (Christian Democratic Union) stands for Islamic religious education in schools. In an interview with the Rheinische Post (Saturday edition) in Düsseldorf, Feller said she believes it is essential “to provide a national curriculum and teachers who have sworn an oath to the constitution”. She was surprised by some of the statements made in the past few weeks. The FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament had called for the teaching to be abolished.
“People may regret that we do not have enough teachers and that we are still far from reaching all Muslim children. But their numbers are increasing in the study projects in Münster and Paderborn,” the CDU politician continued. The scientific evaluation will continue until next summer.
