Turkey is ready to offer its expertise and cooperate with Niger in the fight against terrorism, Turkish Foreign Minister HFidan Hakan said in Niamey, Wednesday, July 17, 2024. The announcement was made after a meeting with Nigerien President General Abdelhamman Tiyani, Chairman of the National Council for the Defense of the Homeland (CNSP).

During the meeting, Mr. Hakan stressed the importance Turkey attaches to the fight against terrorism, a scourge that undermines stability in the Sahel region. He affirmed Turkey’s determination to share its expertise and implement development projects to strengthen bilateral relations with Niger, whom he called a friend and brother.

Mr. Hakan’s visit comes against the backdrop of the two countries’ enhanced cooperation. Over the years, Turkey and Niger have stepped up their joint efforts to address security challenges and promote development. The presence of senior Turkish and Nigerien officials at this meeting underscores the strategic importance of this cooperation.

Turkey plans to launch various development projects in Niger to support the country’s stability and economic progress. Mr. Hakan said these initiatives are essential to strengthen the fight against terrorism and improve the living conditions of Nigeriens. This partnership is expected to consolidate relations between the two countries and contribute to regional stability.

The Turkish delegation, led by Mr. Hakan and including several senior officials including the Ministers of Defence, Energy and Natural Resources, as well as representatives of the defence industry and trade, is a testament to Turkey’s serious commitment to Niger.

On the Niger side, leaders including Defense Minister Lieutenant General Salifou Modi and Foreign Minister Bakary Yau Sangaré attended the meeting. This mutual support reflects the common desire of the Sahel region to strengthen defense capabilities and promote security and development.
