Afghanistan and Pakistan tighten restrictions on media

The International Committee to Protect Journalists said in a press release last Tuesday that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Taliban government in Nangarhar province has revoked the operating licenses of 14 media organizations, calling the matter worrying.

The Afghan Independent Media Support Agency, which has ceased operations in Afghanistan, said in November 2023 that 281 media organizations have been closed in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s restoration, and 4,500 of the 11,858 employees are still working.
