The fight against terrorism, economic, cultural and commercial exchanges and the consolidation of partnerships between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger were among the fundamental elements discussed at the first Summit of Heads of State of the Alliance for the Sahel (Aegis Sahel), which was held in Niamey, Niger, this Saturday, July 6, 2024. In his speech, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, reaffirmed the fraternal ties that unite the countries of the region, while severely condemning those who plot against the countries of the Sahel.

“A happy date, an unforgettable one.” These are the words of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, describing the first summit of AES Heads of State, held on Saturday, June 6, 2024. He thanked the people of Niger for the warm welcome. IB, as he is affectionately called, has benefited greatly since his arrival and he wants to remind people that, beyond neighbourliness and friendship, the peoples of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger are brothers. “In our veins flows the same blood. In our veins flows the blood of those brave warriors who helped to free the world from Nazism and many other scourges. In our veins flows the blood of those brave warriors who were driven from Africa to Europe, America, Asia and helped to build these countries during the period of slavery. In our veins flows the blood of the wise, the strong, the upright. For this, let us be proud! », he expressed his views.

Africa continues to suffer from imperialism

As in several of his speeches, President Faso did not fail to criticize imperialism, which operates inside the country through what he called “parlour slaves”. “The latter have no other guidance than to seek to live like their masters, to satisfy their masters and to fulfill everything that their masters dictate to them. They steal, they plunder our country and give everything to their masters. Their wealth is all in the custody of their masters. They do everything to live like their masters and to always satisfy him. As soon as the master gives an order, they execute it… These are people without dignity, without morals, without character. Slave owners have always been able to recognize these people. They are always ready to betray their brothers to satisfy their masters. They have betrayed us since independence, and others still betray us today for the benefit of their masters (applause). These people still continue to plunder Africa regardless of everything and help their masters to plunder Africa. Every year, they like to say in economic surveys that Burkina Faso is the poorest country, Mali is the poorest country, Niger is the poorest country. We are at the bottom (applause). Well! If we are as poor as they say, when the time comes to take responsibility, we ask these masters to leave… Why are they unwilling to leave? (Applause). Take Niger, for example, where for more than 40 years certain countries have been mining uranium in the country to produce energy. From Ottawa to Paris, the streets are brightly lit. But in Niger, it is darkness that serves us (applause). When you go to our state, you will find that our soil is full of holes, in search of precious metals such as gold. But often there is not even the most basic road access to the gold mining areas, let alone other basic social services. That is why we decided to resist and take the fate of our country into our own hands,” said Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

“We can no longer manipulate the people of the Sahel! »

Ibrahim Traoré said that the anti-imperialist struggle is ongoing inside the Sahel countries and the people are aware of it. According to him, everything is designed to make these countries miserable, through training and elites specially sent to carry out this cause. “They misled several mercenaries and trainers. The agents penetrated deep into the Sahel hoping to carry out cowardly, brutal attacks on our people, hoping to revolt against them. In addition to these ground attacks, communications attacks, manipulation and disinformation are in full swing in their ranks. But the people of the Sahel have understood that we will never be able to manipulate them again. They know where they come from, what they are doing and where they are going. We will not allow this to happen again! Today, people awaken and fight, not for ourselves, but for future generations. It will never make us cry! We will not tremble! We will fight for our true independence, our freedom! », the head of state insisted.

Ibrahim Traoré noted that “democracy, freedom, human rights” are the words used by local lackeys to intimidate the Sahel countries. However, according to him, the “local lackeys” were elected in a democratic, free and transparent process based on their values (the values of the imperialists). Ibrahim Traoré, while recalling the events of July 26, 2023 in Niger and the threats that have hit the country, insisted that the unity of the AES people is irreversible. “We have decided to take responsibility,” he declared.

The President of Faso said that the ambition of the AES, which stems from the desire of the three countries to support each other in defending their respective countries, should be broader and more extensive. That is why during the first summit, issues related to finance, economy, infrastructure, health, education, etc. were explored.
