Armenia’s unrivalled theatre master, People’s Artist of the USSR Violeta Gevorgyan has died at the age of 80.
“The Queen of Armenian Theater, an incomparably great actress, our dear Violeta Gevorgyan has passed away.
Armenian theater was orphaned by his death. Our sweet miracle fell into silence,” said one of his close friends, American journalist and TV host Nune Avetisyan.
Violeta Gevorgyan was born in Tbilisi into a military family. He spent his childhood and youth in Tbilisi. In 1966, they settled in Yerevan and entered the newly opened drama studio and Yerevan Drama Theater. Violeta Gevorgyan began her creative activity at the age of 24.
He played about 20 roles at the Yerevan Hrachya Ghaplanyan State Drama Theater. The first major role was in the play “The Diary of Anne Frank”. Gevorgian became famous for his role as Akhon in the play “Autumn Sun” by Hrant Matvesyan.
