A small plane carrying nine people, seven passengers, five Chinese and two crew members, crashed in Chachoengsao province just 10 minutes after takeoff on Thursday afternoon. Officials concluded that all nine people on board were likely dead.

The plane crashed.

Officials are recovering the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in Ban Khao Ding Village VI, Bang Pa Kong District, Chachoengsao Province, according to Khaosod Online Newspaper on the evening of August 22. Officials initially did not find the bodies of the passengers. It was later discovered that this was because the plane fell headfirst into more than 10 meters of mud.

At the scene, rescue workers used excavators to hold back the water and build a channel at the falls as the surging waters flooded fields, canals, fish ponds and lobster farms in the area.

According to the Civil Aviation Department, the plane is owned by Thai Flying Services Co., Ltd. and has flight number TFT209. The flight left Suvarnabhumi Airport at 2:46 pm and was headed for Ko Mai Si Airport in Trat province, which borders Cambodia.

At 2:57 pm, the aircraft lost contact with the Bangkok approach on the 122.35 MHz frequency.

The newspaper quoted Chachoengsao Governor Chonlatee Yangtrong as saying that about 300 police officers were mobilized to search for the bodies of passengers on the minibus overnight. By midnight, many bodies had been found.

He said the passengers included five Chinese nationals, a 12-year-old girl named Zhang, 43, a 45-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl identified as Yin and Tang, 13. The four Thais were: two female flight attendants and two pilots, one 30 and the other 61.

Motorcycles were used in rescue operations.

Rescuers and search and rescue teams took turns to continue searching for the dead. Because the mud was deep, they also switched to an excavator with a longer arm.
