Rebekka Taukondyo, 27, is the founder of MEDICOS, a fast-paced, entertaining game designed to challenge, educate and unite medical professionals and students around the world. Taukondyo’s journey from her initial struggles with medicine as a medical intern studying in Cuba to creating a game that has captured the attention of the global medical community is nothing short of extraordinary.

Growing through challenges

Born from a flashcard teaching method she developed during her first and second year of medical school, when she faced many challenges, MEDICOS has grown into a comprehensive educational game covering a variety of medical disciplines. From general medicine to pediatrics, cardiology, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology. The game is a testament to Taukondyo’s commitment to making learning fun and effective.

“It was just an idea that popped into my head and I started working on it non-stop, making my first prototype out of a box. I then started playtesting it with students and lecturers at my university and I found myself having to bring the game to school every day because students and lecturers always wanted to play it,” she explains.

“A few months later, a medical expert from the US invested in producing the game because he believed in the idea so much. So I developed the app and started printing it out to sell on Amazon US,” she said.

Global appeal

Despite obstacles such as a lack of resources, poor internet connectivity in Cuba, and limited funding, Taukondyo persisted.

The game was a huge success in its first week on Amazon US, with huge global demand and a surge in inquiries from all over the world, highlighting the impact MEDICOS has in the field of medical education. “I created a brand that understands the struggles, efforts and sacrifices of students and professionals,” she said.
