The concept of “A Night of Tribute to the National Armed Forces” was initiated by two artists who call themselves “The Global Couple”. The idea was to organize two large concerts in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, the two largest cities in the country, to pay tribute to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) and the Dozos, who fight on the battlefield. The announcement was made at a press conference on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
The first concert is scheduled for Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Anselme Titianma Sanon Cultural House in Bobo-Dioulasso, and the second will be held at CENESA in Ouagadougou on Sunday, July 7. According to the spokesperson, this evening aims to be a framework for the expression of Burkina Faso and African creative and cultural values, as well as a moment of exchange between FDS artists and other artists committed to supporting the transformation of Burkina Faso.
This is a completely free concert that aims to bring together thousands of festival goers, among them the FDS, the Commons, the Loyalists, civil society organizations whose mission is to promote peace and social cohesion through music. The theme is therefore “Music, a factor of social cohesion and lasting peace in the new Burkina Faso”.
Several artists will perform on stage during these concerts. The National Armed Forces Orchestra will also be involved, as will the “World Couple”, who for some time have been expressing their support for the transition through music. Artists from the sister countries of Mali and Niger have also been invited to implement the idea of national integration for a greater anchoring.
The event was organized in partnership with the “Children’s Blessing” cultural and sports association. For the actors, everything began with the observation of the insecurity that Burkina Faso is experiencing. For them, everyone in their field of activity must be able to contribute to retaking the integrity of the national territory and seeking full sovereignty for the country.
That is why this event will promote integration and cohesion between the Defense and Security Forces and volunteers who defend the Fatherland, the DSS and the population, and shared values between communities at home and abroad. The initiators invite people to accept this concept and attend the concert.
