Launch of “Club Zanmi Lanati”: a youth initiative for climate protection in Haiti.
The official inauguration of the ‘Zamiranati Club’ took place in Delmas, Haiti, on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The initiative brings together more than 30 young people committed to the environment and sustainable development, led by Savela Jacques Berenji and Louino Robillard, the first Haitians to integrate ‘SUNX, Climate Friendly Tourism (CFT) and the ‘Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS)’.
The steering committee of the “Zanmi Lanati Club” includes influential figures such as environmental journalist Came Stefada Poulard, Dr. Cassandra Jean François, coordinator of the Konbit San San Pou Association, and co-founder Gladimy Jean. Haitian ParadiseTwenty-seven other young leaders, students and professionals from various civil society organizations also supported the initiative.
The main objective of the club is to combat the devastating effects of climate change in Haiti, phenomena that severely affect the livelihoods of the Haitian population. The mission of the Zamiranati Club is to promote responsible tourism, foster ecological citizenship, and create tourist and cultural wealth for sustainable development.
Community development specialist Louino Robillard stressed the importance of raising environmental awareness and mobilizing local communities. “Every action counts, let’s work together,” he said, expressing his hope to see all Haitians become key players in the fight against global warming.
The club’s co-founder, Savela Jacques Berenji, is eager to restore stability and revive tourism in Haiti through eco-responsible tourists. She also wants Haitians to travel within the country and take advantage of local cultural and tourist resources. For her, tourism can be an economic lever for Haiti’s sustainable development.
Came Stefada Poulard, a member of the Club’s committee, encouraged national authorities to respect the commitments made at international conferences. Haiti is a signatory to almost all climate change agreements, but the country’s actions do not match those commitments. “The state, like civil society, must assume its responsibilities,” she declared.
Dr. Cassandra Jean Francois presented the 17 Sustainable Development Goals at the launch event, stressing that Haiti is lagging behind in almost all of them. She particularly insisted on Goal 13, action to combat global warming, saying it should be a priority for all stakeholders. As a doctor, she could not remain passive and insisted that immediate action was needed.
Gladimy Jean presented the awareness and mobilization part in support of tourism ecology and actions against global warming. He practiced with the participants the behaviors to be adopted during tourism, stressing not to leave waste that is harmful to the environment in the visited places.

Louiso Robillard expressed his satisfaction with the creation of the club, stressing that it is an important step in encouraging Haitian society to take ecological responsibility. It calls on people to mobilize to combat the effects of climate change and take concrete actions for a more sustainable future.
