Beijing.- A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck China’s western Xinjiang region on Thursday, with no reports of casualties or material damage.
The quake was recorded at 07:38 local time (23:38 GMT Wednesday) with an epicenter depth of 15 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The earthquake affected the town of Kuche, which belongs to the Aksu region and borders Kyrgyzstan.
It is a low-density region: Kuqa has 530,000 inhabitants spread over 15,200 square kilometers.
In January last year, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Aksu, killing three people and damaging homes and infrastructure.
